Te Tatau 2026 Trustee Election

TE TATAU O TE ARAWA – Call for Nominations

Te Tatau o Te Arawa is calling for nominees to serve on its board.

There are 14 Trustee positions available for representatives of the following sectors of Te Arawa (within Rotorua District):

·        Pūkenga Kōeke/Kaumātua (1);

·        Rangatahi (up to 2);

·        Ngāti Whakaue (up to 2);

·        Te Arawa Iwi / Hapū (up to 6);

·        Te Arawa Land Trusts & Incorporations (up to 2) and;

·        Pan-Te Arawa Entities (1)

Nominations open Monday 26 January and close 12 noon, Monday 23 February 2026.

Electronic voting packs will be issued on Friday 27 February 2026 to those on the Te Tatau o Te Arawa Register. The last day to register to vote is 25 March 2026.

Voting closes 12 noon, Friday 27 March 2026

 

CANDIDATE CRITERIA

Candidates should be willing to honour the principles of the Te Arawa partnership with Rotorua Lakes Council and must:

·        Live in the Rotorua District

·        Be 18 years or over

·        Be enrolled on the Te Tatau o Te Arawa Register

·        Indicate the seat they are standing for and be endorsed by the sector they represent

·        Not be physically or mentally incapacitated to the extent that they are unable to perform the duties of a Board member

·        Not be an undischarged bankrupt

·        Not have been convicted of any serious offences, including against children, domestic violence, or fraud

Seat-specific criteria:

Pūkenga Kōeke/Kaumātua - 1

  • Must be endorsed by Te Pūkenga Koeke o Te Arawa or Te Paepaetapu o Ngāti Whakaue

Rangatahi - 2

  • Must be 18 – 24 and be endorsed by two rangatahi or any two Te Arawa Stakeholders

Ngāti Whakaue - 2

  • Must be a descendant of Ngāti Whakaue and be endorsed by any two Ngāti Whakaue Marae, Iwi authority or Rūnanga

Te Arawa Iwi/Hapū - 6

  • Must be a descendant of a Te Arawa Iwi / Hapū (other than Ngāti Whakaue) and be endorsed by any two Te Arawa Marae, Iwi authority or Rūnanga (other than Ngāti Whakaue)

Te Arawa Land Trusts & Incorporations - 2

  • Must be a trustee of a Māori Land Trust or Incorporation within the Rotorua District, or be endorsed by at least 2 Māori Land Trusts or Incorporations within the Rotorua District.

Pan-Te Arawa Entities - 1

  • Must be a Trustee of Te Arawa Lakes Trust, Te Pūmautanga o Te Arawa, Te Arawa River Iwi Trust or Te Arawa Fisheries, or be endorsed by these organisations

Candidates must complete a nomination form that includes evidence of endorsement, and attach to the nomination form a profile picture, and candidate statement not exceeding 200 words.

Nomination forms can be obtained by contacting the Deputy Return Officer or downloaded at the link below. They must be completed and returned to the Deputy Returning Officer at the address below, no later than 12 noon, Monday 23 February, 2026

 

ELIGIBILITY TO VOTE

Anyone wishing to vote in the Te Tatau o Te Arawa Board election must:

·        Be enrolled on the Te Tatau o Te Arawa Register, and

·        Be 18 years of age or over.

People not already enrolled on the register may do so by completing a registration form before Wednesday 25 March 2026.  Registration forms are available from the Te Tatau o Te Arawa office or Te Arawa uri can register online from the Te Tatau Home page.

 

VOTING

The election will be carried out by internet voting only.  Voter packs will be emailed to all eligible registered members on Friday 27 FebruaryVoting closes 12 noon, Friday 27 March 2026.
